Biography

Dara O’Briain is well known for hosting the popular topical shows Mock the Week, The Panel and The Apprentice: You’re Fired. At University in Dublin he studied mathematics and theoretical physics, but went on to working as a children’s TV presenter whilst doing stand-up on the Irish comedy circuit. After performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, his comedy career took off and he started doing stand-up around the globe. In 2003, he broke through onto UK television with his first appearance on the news quiz show ‘Have I Got News For You’, later going on to appear as guest host of the show many times. Throughout his career O’ Briain has combined his comedy with his background in science frequently, presenting an eight-episode series called ‘School of Hard Sums’ where he and a guest would attempt to solve difficult problems set by Marcus du Sautoy, as well as series of interviews he conducted with theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.
