About

The World Snooker Championship is the most prestigious tournament in professional snooker. The world-famous Crucible Theatre in Sheffield has hosted the tournament since 1977. Don’t miss out on one of sport’s biggest tournaments! Find your Betfred World Snooker Championships tickets right here at TickX. The World Snooker Championship started in 1927 as the Professional Snooker Championship. The first edition of the tournament was won by Joe Davis. He won the first 15 World Championships between 1927 and 1946. Since then, the tournament has crowned snooker stars such as Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, and Ronnie O’Sullivan. Over the years the World Snooker Championship has presented some of snooker’s most famous matches. One example is the ‘black ball final’ of 1985. That saw outsider Dennis Taylor defeat the defending world champion Steve Davis on the final ball of the final frame. Today, the World Snooker Championship runs for 17 days, usually from mid-April until the first Monday in May. The tournament sees 32 of professional snooker’s biggest stars competing in a straight knock-out tournament to claim the title of world champion. That’s not to mention, of course, the World Snooker Championship trophy and the £500,000 prize. The championship is known for the Crucible Curse. Since the tournament moved to the Crucible in 1977, no first-time champion has gone on to defend their title the following year. Thus, there will always be a surprise in store. Nothing else in snooker rivals the excitement of audiences packed into the Crucible Theatre’s 980-seater auditorium. Whatever match-up is on display, crowds are sure to catch some of the highest quality play that snooker has to offer. Tickets to the Betfred World Snooker Championship are in short supply every year. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to see snooker’s finest tournament! You can pick up the best Betfred World Snooker Championship tickets right here at TickX.
