Manchester

Affectionately known as the capital of the north, Manchester has a cultural wealth of activities that keep the city alive day and night. Music or theatre, comedy or sport, festivals or family days out, there is always something that can cater to your needs. 

With a well known reputation for music, you can guarantee that there is always a gig happening somewhere in Manchester. The Etihad Stadium's  55'000 capacity caters to the top performers in the world, whilst smaller venues like Gorilla, the Manchester Academy, O2 Apollo keep things interesting with a slew of touring musicians on stage. 

Between the Palace Theatre and Manchester Opera House, all of the popular touring theatre shows will pass through Manchester's streets. HOME curates an eclectic and exciting mix of arthouse theatre and cinema which sure to get those cerebral juices flowing. 

As for sport, Manchester is home to the legendary Manchester United and Manchester city. However,it's penchant for athletics doesn't stop there. Plenty of other world class teams call the northern city their home, with a wide variety of global championships stopping in to the Manchester Arena to compete.

Iconic clubs like Warehouse Project, Victoria Warehouse, Satan's Hollow and G-A-Y get the club bangers thumping. In fact, Manchester's nightlife never stops, with a clubs and bars open 24/7 across the city. If clubs of the comedy variety are more your thing, The Comedy Store and Frog & Bucket were the birthplace of many great comedians careers. There, the laughter continues on with fresh talent and a variety of touring comedians stopping in to entertain.

The O2 Ritz in Manchester is known for being a bouncing venue in more ways than one. Originally built in 1927 as a dance hall, the 1,500-capacity art deco building is famous for its sprung dance floor and has been one of Manchester’ main live music venues for almost a century.

Since the ascendance of pop and rock ‘n’ roll, the Ritz’s importance in the Manchester music scene has only grown. The Grade II listed building has played host to numerous legendary performances by the city’s 80s and 90s talents including The Smiths, Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses. More recently, the Ritz has helped a new generation of artists to flourish such as Arctic Monkeys and Sleaford Mods.

The venue has been owned by Academy Music Group since 2015, and remains a vital piece of Manchester’s musical architecture directly opposite the newer, smaller venue Gorilla. It was refurbished in 2011, combining modern sound and lighting equipment with its historical ballroom for a unique live music experience. 

While being a regular haunt for many popular artists of today, the O2 Ritz is also a nightclub. It's the home of 'Ultimate Power', which tributes power ballads of the last decades. It also hosts various sporting and miscellaneous events too, adding to the venue's versatility and significance in the city.

New Model Army entered the industry in 1983 after revealing "Great Expectations". Now they've grown into their own, coming back in 2016 with "Winter". They will be touring soon, with shows in Amsterdam, Nottingham and Brighton.
