Glasgow Rocks

Due to a franchise agreement with Glasgow City Council, the former Edinburgh Rocks that became Scottish Rocks, ultimately settled on its current name. The professional basketball team first formed in 1998, and have survived changes and threats of bankruptcy to become one of Scotland’s most successful teams to date. Glasgow Rocks have competed in the British Basketball League since the beginning. They have had some success in seasons, reaching second place at times, but also falling to 10th at others. In following year, in 2006/2007, the team were under the new management of German coach Thorsten Leibenath, before changing once again to player-coach Sterling Davis and Leibenath’s departure a year later. After some ups and downs, the team moved into their new home at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow in 2012/2013. They continued to suffer from a rollercoaster of success, however finally gained momentum again in 2014/2015, where they made it to the British Basketball League final but lost to old time rivals Newcastle Eagles.
