Hayley Kiyoko

Biography

A tremendous force in modern music, Hayley Kiyoko is working to change the industry from the inside out. After rising up through a variety of child acting roles such as 'Scooby Doo' and 'Wizards of Waverly Place', Kiyoko went on to form The Stunners, a six member girl group featuring Allie Gonino, Kelsey Sanders, Lauren Hudson, Marisol Esparza and Tinashe that supported Justin Bieber on tour. After parting ways in 2011, Kiyoko set to work on her own solo debut, releasing 'A Belle to Remember' EP in 2013 and collaborating with James Flanningan and Anders Grahn before unleashing her second EP 'This Side of Paradise' in 2015. Her music video for 'Girls Like Girls' saw Kiyoko entering the market as one of the few openly lesbian pop stars, creating music for the LGBTQ+ community like never before. 'Girls Like Girls' saw Kiyoko assume full directing control, telling the story from her perspective. This was a tradition that Kiyoko has kept up, going on to direct 'Cliff's Edge', 'One Bad Night' and 'What I Need' feat. Kehlani, continuing on her legacy of normalising lesbian relationships within her art. "If you see two girls falling in love and normalising that, then girls can go 'I can fall in love, too. I can be that person. I can look like that. I can get a girl that looks like that.'" Kiyoko was born Hayley Kiyoko Alcroft in 1991 to parents Jamie Alcroft and Sara Kawahara, both used to the limelight themselves with Alcroft a famed actor and comedian known or 'Gears of War' and 'Spyro' a Kawahara, a figure skater and choreographer who served on the film 'I, Tonya'.
