Huddersfield Town A.F.C.

Huddersfield Town AFC is one of the Premier League’s newest additions. Hailing from the town of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, Huddersfield Town returned to English football’s top flight in the 2017-18 season after 45 years away. Nicknamed the Terriers, the club plays at the Kirklees Stadium. Huddersfield Town was founded in 1907 and entered the Football League in 1910. The club’s early history saw its most sustained period of success as the club dominated English football in the 1920s under the pioneering manager Herbert Chapman and Cecil Potter. Huddersfield reached the 1920 and 1922 FA Cup Finals, winning the latter, and became the first club to win three successive league titles in 1926. That feat has only been replicated since by Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. The end of the Second World War saw the start of a gradual decline for the Terriers, who dropped out of the top flight in 1952 and did not return until 1970. After two more years in the First Division Huddersfield were relegated again and spent the next 45 years moving through English professional football’s lower three divisions. Huddersfield’s decision to appoint the first foreign manager in its history, David Wagner, in 2015 has clearly paid dividends as the German-American has led the club to the Premier League for the first time. The epitome of a thoughtfully-run, locally-minded club, the Terriers are now trying to establish themselves in England’s top flight once again. Why not watch the club live to see if they can achieve it?
