The Undertones are perhaps the most successful band to ever emerge from Derry, Northern Ireland, their career kicking off in the 1970s with performances at The Casbah. By 1978 they had incorporated the song “Teenage Kicks”, written by guitarist John O’Neill, into their set and began the climb to success. They performed the song on ‘The Top of The Pops’, with it broaching the Top 40 singles thanks to help from BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel loving the classic hit.
The group carried on releasing albums and making music, until 1983 when the group were met with a dip in success and increasing pressure from their label, EMI. Following their break-up, the members split off and joined other acts or pursued solo careers, however in 1999 they came back together and started to tour the world again.
