As Shrewsbury grew into a popular tourist attraction over recent years, the need for an attractive and dynamic entertainment centre was evident. Theatre Severn opened in March 2009 in a stunning riverside location, boasting a 650-seat auditorium and a smaller 250-seat Studio Theatre. Across its two spaces, the theatre hosts a range of shows, from comedy and concerts to big West End productions.
Jason Manford dubbed the Theatre Severn as ‘easily one of the top five theatres in the country’. From the real Lulu to Paul McCartney’s tribute in Macca The Concert, and The Wedding Singer to Snow White, many popular performances take place at the Theatre Severn, where a spokeswoman for the theatre described its programming as going from ‘strength to strength’ since opening. The venue is also home to the Shrewsbury International Comedy Festival and annual festive pantomimes.
The venue is luminous and spacious, offering spectacular views from The Foundry where you can enjoy a the best of British food as you gaze across the river. Alternatively, its Chapel Bar is a great place for a glass of wine or cocktail, often adorned with various art exhibitions. It also offers a Dance Studio, which is often filled by people of all ages and abilities engaging in dance and drama classes alongside other educational and fitness activities.
