See War Horse at the SSE Arena, Wembley

The National Theatre’s internationally acclaimed smash hit War Horse returns to London this autumn for a limited season at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, an exciting new venue located just steps away from Wembley Stadium.

Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life sized horses by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the Cavalry and shipped to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. Albert, who remained on his parents’ Devon farm, cannot forget Joey. Though still not old enough to enlist he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and b ring him home.

About

Within Wembley Park and adjacent to Wembley Stadium, the SSE Arena is a popular event space for concerts, sports, family shows, comedies and various other performances. It was previously known as Wembley Arena and the Empire Pool, changing its name for sponsorship purposes in 2014. The building famously hosted the 1948 and 2012 Olympics, and continues to show significance in the sporting world. In recent years, it provided the venue for TNA Wrestling, Snooker Finals, Premier League Darts and many others. It is also synonymous with performances by high-profile musical artists. Throughout the years, the likes of The Hollies, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, The Who, Beyonce, Prince, and thrice-performing, The Beatles, all graced its stage. Commemorating its reputation for delivering star-studded performances, the Arena created a Square of Fame in 2006. The Square mirrors the Hollywood Walk of Fame, embellished with bronze plaques with imprints of famous visitors. Pop icon Madonna was the first to make her mark. The refurbishments to the Wembley Park area have leveraged its profile, where the Arena is only surpassed by the O2 as London’s largest indoor arena. It is also within the top 20 largest in the UK.
