You Me At Six entered the scene in 2006 with their first track ‘We Know What It Means to Be Alone’. They have since cultivated a strong fanbase, growing from catchy choruses in their early teenage rock phase, to the bolder sounds of more traditional rock in recent releases. The latter is expected to appease fans in upcoming tours and gigs. The band first got together in 2004, going through changes to membership and releasing two EPs. The band name, often abbreviated to YMAS, was apparently cited after their Friday night plans with pals, and was decided upon in a hurry to print a flyer for an upcoming show. As time went on, the band’s name became recognised among many fans listening to the likes of Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy, the latter of whom the band supported on tour in 2008. The same year, YMAS released their debut album ‘Take Off Your Colours’, which featured the likes of ‘If I Were in Your Shoes’, ‘Kiss and Tell’ and ‘Gossip’ and peaked at number 25 in the UK Albums Chart. They also received nominations at the Kerrang! Awards for ‘Best British Band’ in 2009, going on to win the same award in 2011. After 14 years since inception, the five musicians have released five albums, their sixth, ‘VI’, being released in October 2018. They have toured with the likes of Thirty Seconds to Mars, All Time Low, and friends Paramore, over the years, and are now headlining their own around the UK.
